Mountain of God

Ol’Donyo Lengai (Mountain of God) is the only active volcano in this part of Africa. To reach the top of this mountain you have to start around midnight, so you will reach the top with the craters after 5-6 hours of climbing. If you are lucky you can see the red lava during the nighttime when there is no moon. In the morning you will see the sunrise and if the weather is clear you will see Mount Meru and behind that Mount Kilimanjaro. It takes about 3-4 hours to get down again. To do this climb you need to have good condition, good shoes, and warm clothes. Climbing the Mountain of God is only for the physically fit! The track is very steep. You should not attempt the climb if you are afraid of heights!

Waterfalls

During the one-hour hike to the waterfalls, you will be surrounded by the beautiful nature of the river gorge. At the waterfalls, you can enjoy the nice water for a swim. You will have to walk parts of the trip through water and climb over rocks, therefore you’ll need good shoes that are sustainable to water and have a good grip.

Lake Natron

Lake Natron is a salt, shallow and very unique lake. It is the of the few lakes in East Africa where flamingoes can make a nest from mud. That’s why the lake is full of flamingoes when it is breeding time. A part of Lake Natron is dry, the Maasai people dig the salty soil from here and sell it to people in other areas.

Hot Spring

There are 2 hotsprings around Lake Natron. Both are about a 1,5-hour drive. During the ride to one of these hot springs, you will enjoy the view, environment, and a lot of animals (zebra’s, wildebeest, ostrich, flamingo’s, giraffes, etc.). At the hot springs, you will get the possibility to swim in very nice and warm water. You will feel like you are at the end of the world!
